Romesco is from northern Spain, Tarragona, not southern and it's not heavy spiced at all. Actually, it includes 0 spices, and the dried peppers it uses are sweet. It may be considered mediterranean, yeah, but not middle-eastern. *But* syrian/lebanese Muhammara has a similar taste, but it's made with roasted red bell peppers, nuts and pomegranate molasses. Similar taste, so... ok, I won't be *that* trollish.
